Deborah Gray
Deborah Gray
is a children’s therapist who counsels children
who were adopted later in childhood and/or who
have been in the foster care system or
orphanages. She works closely with children and
their families, promoting secure attachments and
working through grief and trauma. Because of her
practical approaches, Deborah is a popular
trainer for parent and professional audiences.
She is on faculty for 2 post-graduate programs
in foster care and adoption therapy. Her
practice and approach are known as
Nurturing Attachments.
Attaching in Adoption: Practical
Tools for Today’s Parents, 2002,
her first book, continues to be a best-selling
adoption book. It gives parents a detailed guide
when forming attachments with children who have
endured rough beginnings. It helps parents get
on and keep on a healthy track.
Its companion is now out!
Nurturing Adoptions: Creating Resilience after
Neglect and Trauma, July, 2007, is
written for professionals and parents. It helps
readers understand the brain-based impacts of
neglect/trauma in children’s development, and
then spends time detailing healing techniques,
effective discipline, and daily and positive
routines for children.
Both books support the dramatic change in
today’s adoptions as families adopt toddlers and
older children with backgrounds of neglect,
trauma, and loss. The books reflect Deborah
Gray’s faith background and guidance from
Scripture, although the books are written to a
general audience.
